Challenge
The state of Michigan faced an energy policy crossroads – whether the policy would include renewable energy and energy optimization.
Approach
Acuitas helped to develop a strategy that would incorporate an action campaign on behalf of many stakeholders, to drive consensus on policy changes. That campaign facilitated a substantial increase in clean renewable energy and energy optimization with the support of utilities.
Results
The legislature and Michigan Public Service Commission implemented favorable policy changes that included open market provisions, clean energy and energy optimization. While work continues, electric providers must reach 15 percent renewable energy by the end of 2021. The two major utilities now will target a 25 percent mix by 2030.
