Acuitas Adds Attorney, Legislative Strategist to Lineup

June 24, 2021

LANSING, Mich. – Acuitas, a full-service, multidimensional government relations and lobbying firm, today announced the addition of Joel Freeman as a legislative director.

Freeman has extensive knowledge of legislative strategy and its practical implications to businesses, economic incentives, and corporate and property tax. He comes to Acuitas as a well-respected attorney with diverse leadership expertise and many years of hands-on experience in government affairs.

Previously serving as corporate counsel for Rockford Construction since 2015, Freeman led Rockford’s government affairs efforts, developed, and maintained relationships with elected officials and stakeholders, and helped to secure local, state, and federal economic development incentives.

Prior to that, Freeman was vice president of government affairs with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation where he regularly secured large appropriations asks while balancing competing interests.  Freeman also served on policy and legal staff for both the House of Representatives and Senate.

“Joel excels at addressing complex and sensitive matters and turning them into actionable points for senior management and other stakeholders”, said Kevin Korpi, principal at Acuitas. “I am optimistic for his future on our team and his ability to advocate for our clients.”

Freeman served as a Kent County Commissioner from 2013 to 2014 and earned his Juris Doctor and bachelor’s degrees from Michigan State University.
